About Gustav Hoffman
Gustav Hoffman is a Colorado based recording artist, performer, composer, and arranger. While his primary instrument is the trombone, he is also an accomplished multi-instrumentalist. He has primarily worked with a palette of Funk, Rock, Americana, and Art Music while mixing and matching freely to create unique, beautiful, experimental, and forward thinking writing and recordings.
You can hear his classical training whilst technically executing with improvisatory and thematic lines of melodic dissonance and exploratory consonance. Heavily influenced by guitarists Frank Zappa, David Gilmore, and Jimi Page, he stands out as a trombonist utilizing fluid scales, patterns, and phrasing unlike other trombonists that are primarily trained in Be-Bop and utilizing jazz over modern popular music forms. This has allowed him to find and maintain a unique sound in which he has firmly established his own voice.
These days he is song writing and experimenting on multiple instruments and voice based out of his private recording studio as well several ongoing collaborations in Hip Hop, Americana, Rock, and Funk. He is also currently engaged in putting together a collection of Art Music written for Brass Ensemble, String Quartet, Orchestra, and Piano.
